Chet Lacheta of Bloom Township in Chicago Heights, a 6-3, 260-pound offensive lineman, is the Chicago area's lone representative on Parade magazine's 1988 high school All-America football team.

He attended training camp with the Bears in 2002 and the San Diego Chargers in 2003. Butkus also playedcenter for the Rhein Fire (2003) and Cologne Centurions (2004) of NFL Europe. He attended Bloom Trail High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois and the University of Illinois.

 Joe Smalzer played football at the University of Illinois and eventually got drafted in 1976 by the Cleveland Browns. He was then contracted by the Washington Redskins.

Leroy Jackson was a running back in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins. He played college football at Western Illinois University and is a member of the school's athletic Hall of Fame.  On Dec. 8, 1962, his 23rd birthday, Jackson caught an 85-yard touchdown pass for the Redskins from quarterback Norm Snead.

Bryant Colby Young (born January 27, 1972) is a former American football defensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). A first round draft pick out of University of Notre Dame, he played the defensive tackle position.


Young was a three-year starter for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team, lettering all 4 years from 1990 to 1993. As a senior, he was an All-American selection, and had 6.5 sacks and 67 tackles. As a junior, he was an Honorable Mention All-American selection and garnered 7.5 sacks. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1994 with a major in marketing. 

Young played defensive tackle for the San Fransisco 49ers from 1994-2008 and was named to the NFL All-Decade Team for the 1990s, appearing in four Pro Bowls and winning the Super Bowl during his rookie season.
